Tell us about your business (what do you do): We are a training company that specializes in leadership and teamwork development. We help companies get their work done more effectively and we help them develop their people. We believe people develop skills in three primary ways; through significant events, spaced repetition, and modeling. We train using all three methods to magnify skill enhancement. Each client engagement follows a four step process known as the Saber L&T Legacy System. It consists of a Discovery Meeting, where we determine synergy. We move to the Recon Phase which is designed to benchmark current practices. In the Recon Phase we use scientific assessment tools and individual interviews to capture information. With the information we collaboratively build training to address the client’s needs. The Training Phase includes facilitator delivered events selected by the client. We specialize in significant sensory experiences like high ropes courses, simulated firefighting and high speed paramilitary events. These events are designed to create an environment where the participants are totally engaged and open to building leadership and teamwork skills. The next phase is Coaching. We use eLearning and the Saber Coaching system to build skills and reinforce the learning process.
How (why, when, etc.) did you get started: As a career US Marine I fell in love with training people. I had a chance to serve as a Drill Instructor, Leadership Instructor and in a wide range of other training roles. I became certified in several offerings from training giant Franklin – Covey. I wanted to pursue a training career when I retired from the Corps and I launched Command Solutions, about 18 months later I partnered with a like-minded former Marine and we built Saber Leadership.
Tell us about yourself (hobbies, interests, family, pets, etc): I love to read. I enjoy hiking, biking, and skiing. I want to learn canoeing. I am active in my church and I coach youth sports.
What would be a ‘great referral’ for you: Any individual, team or company that is seeking better performance. We have great solutions for everyone.
Who in town would you most like to do business with: I would like to build a relationship with local, state and federal government, defense contractors, Kalahari resort, and GEICO.
What are your goals & dreams (personal / professional): I want to build the premier leadership training company in the world.
Anyone you’d like to thank for helping your business grow: Hyrum Smith, the inventor of the Franklin Day Planner and the Franklin in Franklin Covey is my business mentor. He encouraged me to go out and build something better than Franklin Covey.
Anyone you’d like to thank for helping you personally: I have been positively influenced by many people. The most powerful influence was a gentle man named Louie Smith.
Anything else you want to tell us: I am living the American Dream. I have a great family, a ton of opportunity and some potential. Success is all around us- we just need to build skills and habits to grab it. |
